1 Packing lunch is cheaper than buying lunch.
Keep your budget on track by doing groceries instead of splurging on an expensive meal. There are plenty of cheap, healthy options available in the markets: tomatoes, cucumbers,kangkong, pechay, and bananas which will all give you bang for your buck!
2 Be resourceful: use your leftovers!
Immediately after dinner, place your leftovers in convenient grab-and-go containers, and in lunch-worthy serving sizes as well. This way, you will have nothing to prepare on busy mornings—just grab your containers from your refrigerator, place it in a lunchbox, and head out!
3 Invest in a durable lunchbox.
Whether you are preparing baon for yourself or for your child, your lunch will have to keep well without refrigeration for several hours. Proper insulation will help you out in this department, so invest in a well-designed lunchbox that keep can keep your food hot or cold until you need to eat. 4 Pack smart.
Go for containers that have dividers for each component of your meal. If you are packing a salad for lunch, you can keep the vegetables, the protein, and the dressing separate to avoid spoilage. The same goes for pasta and pasta sauce, and rice and ulam. If you need to pack light, one of our favorite baon hacks is packing up a pair of chopsticks instead of silverware!
5 Start a healthy habit of weekly meal prep.
Remember the key components of a healthy meal: proper portions of starch, protein, veggies, and fruit. You can also include small snacks like cashews or peanuts in the mix, in case the munchies kick in mid-afternoon. Take a couple of hours off your Sunday to prepare a lunch menu for the week ahead. Smart planning will save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
6 Prepare dishes that you truly enjoy.
Motivation can be very difficult to sustain, so pack food that you know you will look forward to eating. The upside of taking the time to prepare your own meals is that you know exactly what goes into your food, and you can adjust the seasoning to your liking. Healthy eating habits will always start with your own initiative and in your own kitchen.
